Kelly practices balance on an advanced motion-analysis machine, the Proprio 5000.

Today, 33-year-old Kelly can run a mile on a treadmill. That's no small feat: She couldn't walk on her own when she first came to the Balance Rehabilitation Training Program at the Illinois Neurological Institute. Burdette has an autoimmune disorder called Guillain-Barré syndrome that left her nerves and muscles so weak that movement was difficult. At the Balance Center, Physical Therapist Shannon assessed Kelly's problems and developed a program to help her regain her balance and strengthen her weakened muscles. Kelly is pictured here on the Proprio 5000, an advanced motion-analysis machine. This technology is helping many Illinois Neurological Institute rehabilitation patients improve their balance.
