Patient Care at the INI
The INI is one of the largest full service neuroscience centers in the Midwest. Our institute offers complete neurological, neurosurgical, and neurological-rehabilitation for adults and children. The adult service provides 90 inpatient beds. This includes 31 critical care beds and four epilepsy monitoring beds. The neurology department offers specialized units in Stroke, Sleep, Multiple Sclerosis, Epilepsy, Neuromuscular Disease, Muscular Dystrophy, Neurological-Ophthalmology, Balance Disorders, Headache, Neurological-Rehabilitation, and General Neurology.
OSF Saint Francis Medical Center’s Level I Trauma provides care for patients throughout central Illinois. Individuals, who have suffered severe head injuries and/or spinal cord injuries, can receive excellent care and medical interventions through our highly trained services. The trauma patients, once stabilized, are transferred to the INI neurological critical care unit. This unit is staffed with a group of highly specialized nurses. The majority of our nursing staff in both the neurological critical care and acute neurology unit is certified in neurological nursing. Through this certification, the nurses have shown a commitment to provide the greatest of care to aid in the patient’s recovery.
A Ceretom portable CT machine allows careful monitoring of the patient’s status without transferring out of the unit to receive urgent CT scanning. Advanced neurological imaging is available 24/7, with the most advanced 3 T MRI and 64 ring CT imaging and angiography, Functional MRI, and Diffusion Tensor imaging available. A large staff of neuroradiologists and neuro-intensivists provide around the clock care.
