Muscular Dystrophy (MDA)
Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Clinic
The MDA Clinic is a source of help for adults and children with a variety of nerve and muscle diseases. A comprehensive array of services is provided by physicians, nurses, therapists, orthotic and medical equipment specialists, and MDA personnel at this monthly clinic. Evaluation, testing and follow-up can all be done during the same clinic visit, a great benefit to the patients and their families.
The interdisciplinary MDA clinic team can advise about the initial diagnosis and recommend measures to medically manage neuromuscular disease. Followup care by the Clinic team is designed to assist individuals with management of symptoms and medical management in order to maintain the highest possible quality of life.
Muscular Dystrophies
There is no single disease called muscular dystrophy. The term covers a group of hereditary, muscle-destroying disorders, which vary in inheritance pattern, age of onset, initial muscles attacked and rate of progression.
Disorders diagnosed and treated here include:
- Muscular Dystrophies
- Motor Neuron Diseases
- Inflammatory Myopathies
- Diseases of Neuromuscular Junction
- Diseases of Peripheral Nerves
- Metabolic Diseases of Muscle
- Myopathies due to Endocrine Abnormalities
- Other Myopathies
MDA Clinic
The MDA clinic is held at the Randolph Building on the third Tuesday of every month. To participate, you must have a written recommendation from a physician which identifies you as a patient having one of the neuromusclar diseases covered by the Association's medical services program (see disorders list above). If the disease diagnosed is not covered by the MDA, appropriate referrals will be made to the health agency covering the specific illness or community agency.
To schedule an appointment, call Amber Reider at (217) 351-1853.
