Neuro-Ophthalmology
Neuro-Ophthalmology Center
The brain sometimes plays havoc with our eyes, robbing us of sight or making vision difficult. The field of neuro-ophthalmology allows a closer study of this unique connection of ophthalmology, neurology and internal medicine. It most often focuses on conditions contributing to vision impairment that do not involve the eye itself, and those that involve the eye and the brain simultaneously.
Possible causes include:
- Brain lesions that cause multiple problems with vision or eye movement
- Stroke
- Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
- Tumors
Surgery can potentially remove tumors that are pressing on the optic nerve or chiasm and offer a chance for recovery. Other treatments depend on the cause of the impairment.
