The goal of the INI rehabilitation staff is to provide holistic, patient-centered services while giving our patients the power to improve their lives. We are committed to:

Our rehabilitation services are accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an internationally recognized accrediting body whose mission is to promote quality, value and optimal outcomes in rehabilitation facilities.

 

Our Services

Outpatient Rehabilitation

Outpatient rehabilitation is provided at seven locations in the area to patients suffering from musculoskeletal and neurological impairments. We participate in many managed care programs, Medicare, workers' compensation, Illinois Medicaid and OSF Charity Assistance. 

Physical Therapy

Physical therapists specialize in the rehabilitation of patients with musculoskeletal and neuromuscular disorders, utilizing:

  • Exercise
  • Joint mobilization
  • Functional retraining
  • Stretching

The goal of physical therapy is to restore function, improve quality of movement, enhance the patient's independence and optimize quality of life.

Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapists help patients better manage the tasks of everyday living, such as:

  • Dressing
  • Eating
  • Bathing
  • Cooking

Occupational therapy may also recommend wheelchairs and make hand and arm splints. Before discharge from the program, the occupational therapist will work with the patient and their family to help ensure highest quality of life.

Speech Therapy =Images= | Speech Therapy

Speech-Language pathologists provide prevention, consultation, assessment and diagnosis, treatment, intervention, counseling and follow-up services for disorders of:

  • Speech (articulation, fluency, voice)
  • Language (including expression and comprehension of verbal and written information)
  • Cognitive aspects of communication (attention, memory, problem solving, judgment, reasoning)
  • Swallowing, including assessment and treatment of disorders associated with weakness and/or coordination of musculature involved with swallowing

Therapeutic Recreation

The therapeutic recreation staff works with persons with illness and disability to restore, remediate or rehabilitate in order to improve functioning and independence, to minimize the effects of illness or disability, and to provide recreation resources to improve health and well-being.

Day Treatment Program

This is an intensive outpatient rehabilitation program provided to patients who participate in therapy two to five days per week for several hours each day. Services are tailored to meet individual physical, cognitive and psychosocial needs, and routine interdisciplinary team meetings are conducted. The day treatment program is particularly helpful for patients who have experienced a neurological injury or illness including spinal cord injury, stroke or head injury and who need therapy to develop skills to improve function at home, work or school.

Case Management

Many injuries and illnesses require treatment provided by a comprehensive team. Case management coordinates patient care/services to ensure the patient and family receive the highest quality of care in a timely manner. Questions or concerns during rehabilitation treatment can be forwarded to the case manager for assistance.

Social Work

The social worker assists patients and families with adjustment to life changes and with resource utilization. This team member may assist patients with accessing financial resources and community agencies or programs as needed. Referrals may include:

  • Transportation assistance
  • Home-delivered meals
  • Services for elderly or disabled persons
  • Vocational rehabilitation
  • Local/state/national support groups and organizations
  • Home care assistance
  • Substance abuse assessment and treatment

Medical Psychology

Services in neuropsychology begin with an evaluation of the patient's strengths and weaknesses in the areas of attention, concentration, memory and problem solving, as well as feelings about the unexpected injury or illness. Individual therapy is provided to help with orientation, memory, problem solving and planning for the future and may also include skills to cope with the changes that have occurred. Therapy interventions may include:

  • Relaxation techniques
  • Pain control methods
  • Stress reduction skills
  • Healthy lifestyle choices

 

Specialty Programs

Aquatic Therapy

Warm water therapy uses specifically designed treatment activities to aid in the restoration, extension, maintenance and quality of function for persons with acute, transient or chronic disabilities, syndromes or disease. All warm water therapy is provided under the supervision of a licensed therapist and/or therapy assistant.

Urinary Incontinence

The urinary incontinence program treats patients with incontinence using a behavioral approach, (no medications or surgery). The therapist works with individuals to "retrain" their bladders and muscles to eliminate or reduce episodes of incontinence.

Industrial Rehabilitation

The Center for Industrial Rehabilitation provides treatments that assist injured workers return to the work force. Services available include pre-hire work screens, post-hire work screens, return to work testing, functiona=Images= | Lymph Therapyl capacity evaluation and work conditioning. In addition to industrial rehabilitation, the center offers consultative services which focus on the prevention of injury in the workplace.

Lymphedema Therapy 

The lymphedema program utilizes the skills of specially certified therapists to reduce swelling and other symptoms caused by damage or malformation of the lymphatic structures via a combination of special techniques and exercise.
