In addition to providing patients with specialized care, they are responsible for the training of neurosurgical residents and supporting a post-residency fellowship that provides new neurosurgeons with specialized training in spine care.
Here at the Spine Institute of the INI, the physicians who treat patients with spinal conditions are also the same scientists who are researching new and better treatment options to improve every patient’s quality of life. Our physicians are committed to cutting-edge research and participate in clinical trials for the development and use of new spinal implants, including artificial discs; and they are also involved in scientific research for the treatment of spinal cord injury using stem cells.
The healthcare professionals at the INI Spine Institute participate in national and international conferences and help train other surgeons in the latest treatments for spine disorders. Their research in spinal cord injury, disc replacement, spine tumor treatment and bone graft replacements is published in papers and textbooks other surgeons use in training and for reference.
The INI Spine Institute also supports the prevention of spinal cord injury through the "ThinkFirst Program." This educational program works with school children to decrease spinal injury while participating in driving, water sports and other recreational activities.
