A History of Leadership
Our highly skilled neurosurgeons can provide treatment for even the most complex spinal problems. All of our neurosurgeons perform basic spinal surgery, while some specialize in very complex procedures such as removal of spinal tumors, reconstructive surgery for scoliosis, or total disc replacement. In addition to six neurosurgeons for spine neurosurgery, the specialized team includes physical medicine, neuroradiology, interventional neuroradiology, radiosurgical neurosurgery, radiation oncology, plastic surgery, oncology, pain anesthesiology and neuropathology. These specialists work as a team to provide a holistic, patient-centered approach to the treatment of spine problems.
The neurosurgeons at the INI Spine Institute:
- Are faculty members at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria.
- Are responsible for the training of neurosurgical residents.
- Support a post-residency fellowship that provides new neurosurgeons with specialized training in spine care.
- Are committed to research and participate in clinical trials for the development and use of new spinal implants, including artificial discs.
- Are involved in scientific research for the treatment of spinal cord injury using stem cells.
The neurosurgeons at the INI Spine Institute have published numerous articles, written book chapters and presented at conferences at both the national and international levels. Their research in spinal cord injury, disc replacement, spine tumor treatment and bone graft replacements helps lead advances in this field.
